Ebony is Greek for "Deep Black Wood"
Trivia
- Due to her name being of Greek origin, and the fact that Egypt was controlled by a Greek kingdom during the time period of her event, there is speculation that she may be Greek instead of Egyptian.
- Her Soul Gem is based on Scarab artifacts, a symbol common in Egyptian mythology, that is said to represent the god Khepri. Here, her Soul Gem takes the place of the ball (sun) the scarab holds.
- The name of her Connect references Bennu, an Egyptian god linked with the Sun, creation, and rebirth.
- Her Magia name references Horus, the most significant god of the Egyptian pantheon and the god of kingship and the sky.
- Ebony's design seems to be based upon what is worn by Egyptian deities.
- Her head-dress being a peacock, is said to reference the sun god Ra and is also associate with the Eye of Horus
- Her design has been seen as controversial. Due to her skin being very pale (while native Egyptians have much darker skin) and her outfit being highly sexualized and stereotypical.
